The basic philosophy of this community is to retain the current rural character, agricultural land base and as much as possible to provide for slow, long-term growth with the least impact on the agricultural lands and the environment. 

Agriculture comprises the largest land use activity in this community, with sections of housing, hobby farms and townhouses throughout.  Services are provided through two core commercial areas in Brentwood Bay and Saanichton, supported by the KeatingX Road industrial and commercial area.

Central Sanich has its own police force and Fire Department, while garbage collection is done on a private basis.

Central Saanich has a Sunshine Hills Golf course for golfing enthusiasts.
